906 Images has done it again! And before you ask like others did, he’s not giving out the exact location for these beautiful ice caves, as he said it was a bit dangerous to get to and you definitely need ice cleats. They’re located somewhere just outside of Marquette on the shores of Lake Superior. So, back to the actual photographs... absolutely stunning captures of the winter phenomenon of ice forming in the caves that make UP the shoreline of Lake Superior. The colors captured, the cascading ice formations and the angles show off the beauty that Mother Nature creates and 906 Images snaps for all of us to enjoy.

Have you ever wondered how a compass actually works? Well, wonder no more, as Alexis Dahl explores ‘Why This Weird Compass is a Big Deal’. The lead-in to her video says: “What happens when your magnetic compass starts spinning in the wilderness? Meet William Austin Burt, who took that as a cue to invent something new. Special thanks to the Marquette Regional History Center for access to their library and solar compass exhibit!” Plus she adds in her blog, that this video turned out to be more challenging than expected… despite the fact that she already expected it to be challenging! Figuring this thing out required reading some 1870s manuals, and also learning to build a basic 3D model in After Effects, but she thinks the results were worth it.

Absolutely wild, Mary. The icicles can't actually be curved. It must be a wide angle lens?

Alexis never disappoints and always entertain while educating.

Thanks for posting very early so I could be first instead of my usual last.

People are so brave to go in those
caves. Nice pictures, but no thank
you.

Hi
Beautiful delicate colors in the ice pictures.

The video was interesting. I did know that the sun
rises and sets in slightly different positions
depending on the time of year. Our vacation home is
on the shore of Lake Huron so we can see a broad
horizon. In July, the sun sets near the Mackinac
Bridge but by fall it sets inland.
