A beautiful walk in the woods this time of year is therapeutic in so many ways. The blanket of leaves covering the ground make a rustle and crunch as you walk through them and if you’re walking with a friend, the walk and talk is soothing to your mind and soul. Beth Jukuri did just that recently and captured some of the beauty to share with us. You can almost smell fall, looking at all the leaves covering the ground. Her first photo shows the typical late, hanging on Oak leaves. They sometimes wilt and dry right on the branches and are still there even in the winter months.

Today’s Visit Keweenaw video is another in their “Crossing Place” series. This one features Don Kauppi of the Mariner North in Copper Harbor, as he weaves a story of life (and business) set on recreational excellence in the Keweenaw. When does a restaurant become more than simply a place to eat? We all know that the Mariner North always has a hearty meal and a refreshing drink waiting for you, but did you know that the Kauppi family has been a cricical champion of the trails systems and the well-being of the Keweenaw? Check out: A Beacon In The North – The iconic Mariner North and the Kauppi Family.

Bittersweet set as another Autumn falls away.
But Spring is just 128 days away…a blink
of an eye.

Hi
The second photo made me think of some lines from
the Robert Frost poem "In Hardwood Groves":

The same leaves over and over again!
They fall from giving shade above
To make one texture of faded brown
And fit the earth like a leather glove

These are so inviting. I can just
smell that sweet fall smell.
Thanks for taking me along, Beth.

The leaves are on the ground here too, 400 miles south. All except for my oak tree. It's never late. It's just plain NEVER. It's all winter. It hangs onto about 1/3rd throughout the winter. I swear that 40 years ago it was no where near that many hanging on.

I read once that deciduous trees will eventually evolve into evergreen trees. Mine is evolving at breakneck speed.

Beautiful Fall pics and great familiar video. Really
missing those trails and a meal at the MN!! Hoping
to get U.P. after Thanksgiving and hit the two
tracks with pal, Marty and my brother, Uncle Mike.
All three of us are missing the Yoop and I seem to
be the one holding up the trip with nagging health
issues. We'll see if we can change that here
shortly, as things are improving with me. Need to
find dates where all 3 of us can go and do not have
commitments where we have to be back home anytime
soon.

Beautiful pics...Oak leaves are always the last to
leave. Always.

I worked at the Mariner for a year. I was a "Harbor
Rat"....worked for Kauppi and he was one of the
best bosses I have ever had....And I still call him
Kauppi...Donnie would be too weird for me!! LOL

The leaf-covered trail draws you in and makes you want to hike there to see what's ahead!
