We have a newcomer to our Pasty Cam pages today, Rebecca Ouellette Hovis who snapped the first two photos in Lake Linden with the Aurora glowing over St. Joseph Church, from Front Street (the back of the church) and then the steeple shot from Calumet Street (in front of the church). I don’t know about you, but the steeple shot looks somewhat like an angel in the sky to me.

The remaining photos were taken by Judy Byykkonen. She had started out at Calumet Waterworks Park (Bucky’s), but the parking lot was full and cars were lining the highway on both sides, so she decided to head to Tamarack Waterworks road. Great choice, because the Northern Lights were outstanding and she was pretty much there by herself. The lights have been really active lately and so colorful that you can even see the reds with the naked eye, I’m told. Judy took these with her phone after changing a few settings. My favorites are the streaks of color shooting down from the sky.

The weather down south has been riddled with hurricanes and tornadoes lately, so today’s video from the History Channel is a timely one in case you don’t know...Why Hurricanes Have Names.

Simply beautiful!

There is a webcam on Mt Ojibway on Isle Royale that faces northward. I've captured many still images and I'm working on creating some videos. But this image struck me as super interesting. So much so that I've submitted it to the NOAA/NASA space weather website, hoping to get some explanation.

The interesting aspect is the very different, upward direction and color light that seems to be somehow controlled or affected by the city lights of Thunder Bay, Canada. All light carries with it an electric field and a much weaker magnetic field. This energy seems to be affecting the Aurora.

These lights have been phenomenal. Great shots by these two. We stood out on our back porch and got some. And yes, you could see some with the naked eye. We were very excited. We got quite a few. We have a light out there that stays on all night, or I think the photos would have been even better. But we were happy with our shots. Thank you guys for sharing yours with us. I had a cousin down in Texas who even got pretty good shots. Quite unusual year.

Great aurora photos! A bit jealous that I can't be there to see it. We saw them last week even in the tropics, but not like that.

Hopefully, you folks in the yoop have also been enjoying Comet Atlas the past few nights as well. I managed to get some great shots a couple nights ago once I punched through the light pollution.
