If you didn’t grow your own pumpkins, it’s time to head to a pumpkin farm or store to get yours to carve. Debbie Jarve did just that with the help of a few of her grandkids recently, at the Mayflower Pumpkin Farm. Check out the view looking down toward Traprock Valley from the farm. Pretty spectacular looking, seems like you can see forever in the first photo. It sure looks like they had plenty of pumpkins to pick from on this day, but don’t wait too long, because the closer it gets to Halloween, they’ll be disappearing quickly. I love the display with the hay bales and little scarecrows. It made the picture of Debbie’s granddaughters even cuter, if that’s possible!
We’re joining Kristin Ojaniemi for an episode of Discovering the U.P. about her deer hunt, the ATV Wilderness Adventure ride in Baraga County and Richard P. Smith’s book on Black Bears. Sit back and enjoy!

Very cool pictures. It's really looking like fall now. Like the saying goes, "My favorite color is autumn". I bet those grandchildren had a blast. I remember taking mine when they were little. It doesn't matter what you do with the grandkids. It's always great to make those memories.

Nice set that exemplifies the season ! And I’m no genius, but I really have a craving for a slice of pumpkin pi.

Hi When I was a kid, fall meant apple orchards rather than pumpkin patches. Mostly this was because cousins had an apple orchard, and adults & kids helped out. Well, young kids didn't help all that long or well, but we were there with our moms.
Glad to see fall colors.

It's getting mighty gorgeous out there...too bad there wasn't more color for that 4 wheeler ride..but the water falls they found were spectacular!!
The pumpkin patch....back in the day, I'd do those super fancy cut out pumpkins....about 6-7, and when I lived in Dollar Bay, I also had a motion detector pumpkin that would "woo woo" when someone walked by. I had all my pumpkins on the front porch and the woo woo hiding in a lilac bush. There were some parents walking the Halloween run w/their little man...probably about 4 y/o...that pumpkin went off....and so did he! lolol...he started "Oh, there's a pumpkin, there's a pumpkin, there's a pumpkin", on and on...Mom and Dad just laughed...they never saw him do anything like that before....it was so cute. Poor lil dude probably had a pantsful when he got home.

Hi Donna, sounds like fun. Every year on the weekend before Halloween, our nature center here in Jackson has "Goblin Walks". Kids in costume are led from station to station on trails lined with lit jack o' lanterns. I'll be part of the crew carving pumpkins.

We too always went to the apple orchard at this time of year. Us kids got snow apples and the folks got red delicious. And maybe some baked goods while we were there. We did have jack-o-lanterns with REAL candles inside, but don't recall where we got the pumpkins. Always had to roast the pumpkin seeds tho!

KathyL...GREAT time, indeed!
I had the Headless Horseman, a witch at the cauldron, etc..they have booklets that you tear out a pic, tape it on, poke through the picture, then carve...and they are so awesome!
