One of the perks of having to go to work in the early morning hours is getting to see the sun rise and rest for a moment right on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge. Chad Johnson captured today’s first photo recently when the sun was just making it’s way up to start his work day. Absolutely stunning!

The remaining photos on the Houghton waterfront were snapped by Judy Byykkonen when she and the WIND (Women in New Directions) ladies were there recently, cleaning up their garden, getting it ready for the winter months to come. Beautiful fall colors in the trees around the park, with the Lift Bridge in the background, standing there stately as she always does. Judy’s bottom photo amazes me, though, that a single dandelion was so determined to grow that it sprouted right out in the middle of that huge boulder and it looks like another one is trying to pop up, too. Nature is determined to grow where it wants!

We have a neat video here today from G Cast. It shows the Copper Country from the 1950’s, starting with the old Arcadian Mine that folks used to be able to tour in Ripley, with a gift shop and all. I remember going there with my folks way back when... yes, I’m that old. Plus there are some old views of Fort Wilkins and a bit of Lake Superior footage, too. Enjoy a step back in time.

Gorgeous pictures all around.

How outstanding. The sunset is gorgeous, and I
LOVE the dandelion growing w/it's buddy next to it.
If they are Finn, that's SISU!!!

Cool Vid.

Nice pix fur sure!
And the first one is a doozy.
The red leaves are nice too, but;

I want it painted black
No colours anymore,
I want them to turn black”

Hi
Alex, the character in the song was seriously
depressed and wanted everything, not just red
leaves, black.

But, as long as we're talking leaves, the leaves in
the photo seem too dark a red for a native maple.
Any body out there know tree species?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, October 12, 2024 - 10:50 pm:

I agree, Kathryn. But there are
quite a few of them like that here
. Normal maples are more orangish
still.

Absolutely beautiful pics and great video with
uplifting musical accompaniment!!

Was just talking to my pal Marty, about the Lions
game which is currently on. He was eating a Pasty
from Pasty Central, which reminded me to get some
ordered. Arriving this week, can't wait!! (Yes, like
a true friend, he offered to bring me a few) told
him to save them, I appreciate it. I'll order them
for "The Vic" and me. lol

Might be a Brandywine Red Maple, leaves seem the
right shape and color looks right. I'm no expert
though, just peaked my curiosity enough to do some
research. They are bred as males so no suckers to
contend with. Leaves hold on longer in the fall as
well so color maintains better.
