Well, well, well, Deb Simons and her hubby Ron have gotten to be quite the explorers. They went on an adventure with friends recently, to check out Canyon Falls, south of L’Anse. It is often referred to as the Grand Canyon of the U.P. or Michigan, I’ve heard also. That’s because of the gorge and the steep rock walls that form it.
Deb said they had a fun time with perfect weather and magnificent scenery, with the river, the gorge, the terrain, just everything was spectacular. She did say though, that you really have to watch where you’re walking, as there are roots sticking up all along the trail. It’s worth the time and the hike and no matter if it’s your first visit or your 50th, it’s always an amazing adventure.
Our video from Life Afoot takes us to Canyon Falls on a rainy day. It’s even a fun adventure in the rain, except for the mosquitoes they encountered. So sit back and enjoy the hike!

How gorgeous....And I LOVE the looks of tree roots growing wild like that. Mother Nature is such an awesome artist.
Beautiful stuff Deb!!

Just a gorgeous (pun intended) area - and Deb is right! Watch out! Question is....... did Deb & Ron go beyond the "The Trails Ends Here" sign?
By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 - 05:42 pm:
Yes, jbuck, Deb and Ron did.

Great photos Deb. This is the one "main" water falls in the UP that I have yet to visit. The advertised (longer and rougher) walk has always caused me to shy away. The video appears to do a good job of showing the trail, yes? Plus those boardwalks look fairly new, so maybe the precautions on the signs are a bit outdated? If Deb & Ron made it then I'm game to try again, but not after recent rains?
It looks like that tree has led a very rugged life. Congratulation to it for hanging on for so long.

D.A., the worst things about the trail are the tree roots. You have to be extremely careful. There are more boardwalks than there used to be. But it can get a little hilly, and sometimes there are rocks to get down to get closer to the river. But neither of us have great knees, and we made it. I love this place. And thanks for all the wonderful comments.

Beautiful pics & video!! Don't think I've ever been to Canyon Falls.
Don't look now you Minnesota Twins fans, but these young guys from Detroit are about to climb over you to take the Wildcard!
Excellent eye Deb, but I’ll take my tree neat. I’ve past by Canyon Falls a hundred times, but never stopped to check it out. To busy going UP or going back home. Another woulda, coulda, shoulda.
