We’re joining Laurie Bashaw on the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore boat tour. She said it was a good day to hop on the Pictured Rocks Cruise boat and it was as beautiful as always, checking out the various cliff formations, spotting some kayakers along the way and a look at the Grand Island East Channel Lighthouse, too. Laurie added that we are so lucky to live by this National Lakeshore and she’s so right. I think living so near Lake Superior and all the Big Lake has to offer us, we sometimes just take it for granted that it’s basically here in out backyard and easily driveable in just a few hours to get to most places on her shores. There really is so much to see and do here in the U.P., we don’t have to go far from home to enjoy the beauty.
Speaking of kayakers, MI Playground recently took the Pictured Rocks Kayaking Tour where they bring you out on one of their boats, launch the kayaks into Lake Superior and you get to enjoy an incredible experience kayaking some of the best landscapes in the world.

Beautiful photos!
I know a guy that wrote a book on Michigan geology that featured Pictured Rocks as one of the stops... ;-)

Beautiful pictures, Laurie. You can never be disappointed talking a boat tour there. Even though the last time we went it was cold, rainy and foggy, it didn't matter. It was still beautiful. Looks like you guys had a great day for it.
And yes, Mary, we're 20 minutes to a half hour from our favorite Lake Superior beaches here in the Copper Country/Keweenaw area. How lucky are we to live here.

Gorgeous!!
Who's done the Lake Superior Circle Tour? (Not me)
By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 - 10:36 am:
I've done all but about 220 miles of it. Someday....

Count me in Donna - i've done the Circle Tour twice. Once with the folks just before 17 was finished.

Hi I've been on the boat tour along the cliffs a few times & it was great. But I also enjoyed the glass-bottom boat tour in Munising Harbor looking at shipwrecks...and the sandstone shelf that caused a number of them.
I saw the kayak tour on Michigan Under the Radar on PBS. I like the idea of getting a ride out to the scenic parts and then paddling. However, the rocks in the water made me recall when Miners Castle suddenly dropped a pile of rocks into the Lake. I'd hate to have been under that in a kayak.

Kathryn, when I see those kayakers out there, I remember the same thing and say no way.

I agree ladies - you just never know when a rock formation like Miner's Castle might crumble. There was the big cliff slide 3 years ago and a smaller (but still significant) one 5 years ago. Going thru the portal.....no!

My late husband and I did the Lake Superior Circle Tour twice,
each time on a Goldwing. The first time, we stopped at Old Fort
William and Ouimet Canyon. Both very interesting places. The
entire ride was so much fun. We even saw a moose!

Beautiful pics for sure! Mary & Deb, you are very fortunate to live in the Keweenaw!! :=)) Maybe someday.... Marquette most likely...for healthcare reasons. lol

We know, u.c. And Marquette is a heck of a lot better than where you are now, that's for sure.
