Today’s Pasty Cam came about in a joint effort, starting with Donna MacIntosh who had the idea and pitched it to myself. She then enlisted Deb Simons to go and snap these great photos of our old stomping grounds from our teenage days, Lindell Chocolate Shop. Back then it was the local “hangout” for all the teens after the dances and other school events, with a pool hall next door. What a great walk down memory lane where everything there at Lindell’s is just about the same as when we hung out there, drinking pop, malts or shakes and playing pool and pinball games. The jukebox and the booths are still there, making the atmosphere quite unique.

Deb said her Mom worked there as a teenager and loved it and also mentioned how her Dad used to go there for coffee with the guys on Monday mornings during football season, unless the Packers beat the Lions, that is. I’m pretty sure there is still a group of folks that meet there for coffee and gabbing each morning.

Lindell’s was founded in 1918 by Louis Grammas and James Pallis who specialized in homemade candies, ice cream, fruits, tobacco and various other assorted sundries. They took the Lindell name from Lake Linden and nearby Hubbell...”Lind” and “ell”...Lindell. The Batzel family are the present owners and still make homemade candies, ice cream and serve a delicous breakfast and lunch. They also sell homemade pasties, both regular and breakfast pasties at the Farmer’s Market every Friday.

For more history about Lindell’s, check out this link from Visit Keweenaw: Lindell Chocolate Shop

We travel to the Straits of Mackinac with The Restless Viking to find out about the Mackinac Straits history and why it has been important in the history of the United States.

Mary, this is great. It's awesome
that you mentioned we did it as a
team. Donna, thanks for coming up
with this idea. I'm embarrassed I
never thought of it myself, lol.
And Mary, you did such a great job
with these pictures and research.
It's always a walk down memory
lane going in there. I love that
place. And the service and food
are good, too.

Yes…it looks like a great place to “hangout “,
chill and relax.

And a nice view of the Mac.

Hey! I ate lunch at that same booth. LOL
I didn't know the history though.
A lot of great woodwork.
Does the jukebox still work?

Wonderful historical perspective by the Vikings!

I know this place well!

My Mom Nadine used to walk from our house in Lake Linden to work there in the 90s before my parents moved to New Mexico to escape the winters. I remember after morning classes at Tech driving to Lindells and having lunch with Mom during her break. Sadly, Mom passed away last October, but always talked fondly of her days working there.
