When the summer days turn hot... a drive out to White City is in order, as the air is always a bit cooler near Lake Superior. Stacey Flood took that drive recently and snapped a couple photos of the Lower Entry Lighthouse, which I’m still actually puzzling over. In the second photo, the Lighthouse looks closer, but I know from the trees on the left side, that the photo was taken near the park. Then the third photo, the Lighthouse looks way out there and you can only see Lake Superior on both sides, so I’m not sure how the distance looks so different in both photos. It must be something to do with different lenses or some such, but whatever it is, I’m stumped.

That last photo is a dandy of a sail boat and no clue as to the name of it, but wouldn’t it be grand to be on board sailing on Lake Superior? If it’s a relatively calm day, that is. She’s a beauty for sure!

RV America has some recommendations of “Must Do’s” for the Keweenaw Peninsula. They explore small villages, cascading waterfalls, wonderful parks, and beautiful hikes around Lake Superior and share their top seven favorite things to do on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

I was also confused by today
pictures. She maybe zoomed on the
one that looks closest. Either
way, I love them all. But the
sailboat is probably my favorite.

Those are way cool pics...it's been decades since
I've been out there. The colors are stunning!!

I do a daily trivia...this is the answer for
today's...I had NO idea...

Sunflowers are commonly used to clean up
radioactive waste. They have been proven to
extract pollutants, including radioactive
contaminants, through their roots and store them
in their stems and leaves. Sunflowers are often
planted near toxic nuclear sites, where they will
absorb the waste from the soil and water. The
flowers are then collected and disposed of as
nuclear waste. After the nuclear disasters of
Hiroshima, Fukushima, and Chernobyl, fields of
sunflowers were planted across the affected
landscapes to help absorb radiation from the soil.
The sunflower has since become a worldwide symbol
for nuclear disarmament.

That's very interesting, Donna. I
had no idea.

Great pics in the "key a wanna" peninsula. :=))

Confusing indeed! It almost looks like two
different lighthouses. Even the background
on the opposite shores are different, as are
the missing trees.

I'ma lichen those orange pics.

Different lenses indeed. Those 2 photos very dramatically demonstrate how a telephoto lens (or one zoomed in) can compress the actual perceived distance. The 3rd photo looks twice as far but is actually half the distance. The 2nd one is really taken from twice as far away compared to the 3rd. The mooring posts can serve as a built in measuring device by counting them.

Stacey messaged me to explain the two lighthouse photos and clear up my being puzzled by them...here's what she said: "Lol! I did use my zoom and tricky angle to get the picture you were confused about! I experiment with different angles and my zoom to get unique pictures. A little bit of creativity...more than just the boring shots."
So there you go!

That's what I figured, because I
do that all the time. Nice job.
