H Donn de Yampert sure gets around, snapping photos with his drone and/or camera. Seems like retirement is suiting him just fine. Today’s adventure takes us to the top of Brockway Mountain for several views with his drone camera. When you’re standing UP there in person, you can’t see what a steep drop it is off that rocky edge. Donn’s photos give you a whole different perspective and respect for not going too close to the edge there.

In the fourth photo, you can see the Brockway Mountain Drive road to the top on the left side and I think the one on the right is perhaps a bike trail or hiking trail. Both must have taken quite a bit of work to construct on that mountainside, especially the road back in 1933, built by the Michigan Civilian Conservation Corp. The bottom photo is the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge from UP above. Here again, you don’t realize how big the Lodge is until you see it from overhead like this. The Lodge was built in 1934, with the cabins added in 1935.

We wrap up this Copper Harbor area visit, with a video from In The Keweenaw called Copper Harbor Calm. Kayakers in the Harbor and a look at the Lighthouse, too.

We'll be up on Brockway soon enough.
Yes, Dr Nat and I are in the Keweenaw for a couple weeks taking in the area sights and such. Maybe you'll see us tootling around in the Jeep?

The CCC did an amazing job building the road. Has it been overhauled many times since then?

All the pics are fantastic but the first is my favorite. What a perspective!

I seem to recall, back in the late 70's, there used
to be a visitor's center/gift shop kind up building
up on Brockway. Don't see it here in these pics.
When did that go away?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, July 29, 2024 - 10:32 am:

JoAnne, I'm not sure if a date,
but it's been gone for a very long
time. I loved that little gift
shop.
