Joanne Furton was on hand over on the eastern edge of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore when the Northern Lights were putting on quite a show. She said it is a beautiful area and her first time there. The photos were taken from Coast Guard Point in Grand Marais and the Northern Lights photos have the outer Lighthouse in them, but from a great distance, while the Milky Way photos both have the inner Lighthouse.

I wasn’t clear on the inner and outer lighthouse info, so Joanne sent me a link from Wikipedia where it said this: “The Grand Marais Harbor of Refuge Inner and Outer Lights are a pair of lighthouses located on the west pier at the entry to Grand Marais Harbor of Refuge, in Grand Marais, Michigan. The pair of lighthouses are, 2,610 feet apart. Both are prefabricated skeletal iron or steel structures painted white and bolted to the pier. The outer light is 34 feet tall and the inner light is 55 feet tall. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.”

We’re heading over to Marquette to do some exploring around Presque Isle with Michelle & Heather Outdoors. Hidden along the east side of Presque Isle are beautiful Lake Superior Sea Caves and sandstone formations. Hop on board for the tour!

Absolutely spectacular, all of
them.

Hi
Beautiful shots of the northern lights; I hope I can
see some, in person, that look so good. I'm told
cameras "see" more vivid colors.

Presque Isle by Marquette indeed has interesting
geology, with the red rocks looking different from
the black rocks. I'm guessing the red are
sedimentary and the black are igneous.

That was a magnificently Superior set
beginning with the stunning pix and
ending with one of the most calming
videos that I’ve seen in a while.
The fourth pic had me confused
(unsurprisingly) as I called it the
it; The Milkyhouse Lightway.
And as I said, the video was
Superior. What a perfect day for paddle
boarding. I personally think that the
sunken dock was obviously a ball washer.
And every shot is a hole in one unless you
shoot a boogie from a boogie board.

WOW, WOW, WOW....how phenomenal. All we get is
clouds. sniff. These are beyond beautiful, esp with
the Milky Way...unreal shots!!

Fantastic pics & great video from a viewpoint not
many get to experience! Thanks for sharing.

Chomping at the bit to start heading north!! Got
the first oil change on Big Red today, so she's
ready to tow and go and do the work for the next
90 days or so. Need a little Sammy Hagar and "I
can't drive 55" and I-75 & M28 lol

And yes, D.A. the plan is to be in Gay in August,
barring any health or family issues. I have my
Surface Echo next week, really hoping that it
reports no significant changes in my heart that
might screw up this trip. I know one of my valves
will have to be replaced again, hoping it's
further down the road timeline wise. I've been
feeling good, knock on wood.

Hope you all have a great weekend coming up and
Summer is going well for all of you. Praying that
Ron, D.A., Alex, Donna, JBuck's husband, Buck and
everyone is holding their own.

The way I figure it... "If the good die young, I'm
going to live forever"!! :=))

UC Out-

Had to look at those pics and watch that video
again!! Man, only in the U.P.!! Just simply Amazing!
I envy those of you who live there year-round. Maybe
someday I'll be able to call it my home again. I
know first-hand that Marquette's, U.P. Health System
is top notch and U of M isn't that far away. Take
care of a few details down here over the next couple
years and just maybe....

I'm rambling, sorry... I just miss God's Country!

I hope you get your dream, UC.

Wonderful & very intense shots Joanne. I would be interested in knowing if the in person impression of the boldness and intensity of the colors, etc. was similar?

I've seen cases where the native camera results are naturally more bold, etc.

Great video but I'm confused. Their YouTube Channel is labelled Brian & Heather not Michelle & Heather. Either way, I was happy to subscribe.

U.C.,
Just trying to keep your geo-info in my back pocket in case the opportunity arises for our paths to cross this summer.

D.A.(Midwested)

The video channel is Brian & Heather Outdoors, but Heather has done a few videos with Michelle, also, thus the Michelle and Heather Outdoors. Heather mentions at the beginning, that it's been a while since the ladies have had any adventures together. So, I guess they are just adding their adventures to the Brian & Heather page! Glad you enjoyed them enough to subscribe!
