Today’s Keweenaw County adventure takes us for a look at what the Eagle River Falls is UP to. Judy Byykkonen was there this past week and snapped some shots, showing how the ice has built UP at the top of the falls where the water begins its descent. Even with what looks like some thicker ice, further down a bit you can still see the falls flowing underneath that icy build-up and then moving on down the river to Lake Superior.
Judy also shares a short video, where you can see and hear the water flowing over the falls. Make sure you have your speakers on for the full effect.
If you’re a star-gazing enthusiast, you might be interested in an upcoming 2024 Upper Peninsula Dark Sky Festival being held April 11th, 12th and 13th, hosted by the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, Headquarters for the Keweenaw Dark Sky Park. The webpage says: “The event is intended for all ages of dark sky enthusiasts. The evening event on Thursday allows guests to check into their accommodations, have a meal and then take in the presentation. Friday and Saturday’s events in the afternoon allow guests to have a morning adventure and an afternoon and evening of learning.” For the full schedule and information for purchasing tickets, click here: Schedule and pricing

These are great! I love how they're covered with snow and ice but the waters still trickling. Great catch!!

How gorgeous. Remember the little tree that used to stand in the middle on the top of the falls?
The sound is so wonderful to hear.
I read an article from a young lady in Canada, who is crying there's no snow in her hometown. She traveled to find some. She did. Yippee! She also said we are in an Ecological Grief. I know I am. Where's OUR snow???

Another great composition by Mother Nature, then captured by Judy's great eye & energy.
Donna, It looks like the mild Winter has been caused by a stronger than normal el Nino. The la Nina to follow in 6 months is expected to produce a cooler late Summer and Fall.
I'm surprised the Dark Sky Festival doesn't start on April 8th. That's when the Solar eclipse is happening. Even in the UP you can expect approximately 75% totality. I will be driving south about 5 hours to experience approximately 4 minutes of totality.

You beat me to it, D.A. I don't like to hear you're in grief, Donna! Just remember a few years back when the lakes were so high and there was terrible concern for the future. But it's all cyclic and the lake levels have dropped again. Next Winter we'll probably be wishing for a reprieve when the snow buries us for months on end!
