Fill them and they will come! I’m guessing that must be Bob Gilreath’s motto for his bird feeders in the backyard. He sure has had a variety of feathered friends, lately, from small birds like Goldfinches and Chickadees, to a bit bigger, like Bluejays and then bigger still, like a Ruffed Grouse (or Partridge, as many of us grew up calling them) and even the elusive Pileated Woodpecker, in this case a female. Quite a nice array of colors, too. Bird watching is such a great way to pass the time in the winter months, not to mention what a wonderful thing to do to care for God’s little creatures by making sure they have food for the cold months.

Today’s video from In The Keweenaw was recorded last week as the finale of the Michigan Tech Winter Carnival festivities, the Torchlight parade down Mont Ripley and the fireworks. Absolutely stunning!

The video was mesmerizing.

Beautiful shots of the birds! The Pat (as we called them) stands out - many people would say they are just a brown bird. But look at all the shades of white, brown, black and the details in the feathers, esp around the neck.

The vid was great - the parade was amazing and fireworks look even better over snow!

different Grosbeaks? They are beautiful birds too.

carrier..what an honor that had to be!

It had ice fishing, bird watching and the northern
most sauna in the U.P. And it is one beautiful
place. Huge window that lets you watch the lake
while you steam. That was stunning.

Wow! Mount Ripley has finally erupted.
Complete with lava flows and eruptions.
“Oh, the humanity!”
I hope the beautiful birds got away safely.
