On a sunny day last week, Kathy Erkkila Ptaszek decided to take a drive out past Gay, MI to check on the Tobacco River and Lake Superior. She reports that all is well! The waters of the Tobacco River are peeking out of the snow and ice and flowing into the Big Lake at the mouth there still. Kathy’s third photo looks like a glimpse of Lake Superior through the trees and into the Tobacco River park, before you see the water beyond. That’s an awesome spot for a picnic in the summer time. Then Kathy’s last photo gives us a grand view of a calm Lake Superior in all her glory, with a small covering of ice along the shoreline there. What a way to spend a sunny day!

Now we join Cody J. McClellan for some winter exploring at Bond Falls. Cody describes it like this: “Bond falls in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is an epic display during the winter months. Ice formations surround the area as do the forest! Hopefully this short film highlights the breathtaking rugged area! “

Beautiful pictures! I always love pictures of the
Tobacco River area. And Bond Falls is always a
favorite stop.

Very nice video. It seems if I'm ever within 50 miles or so from Bond Falls, I'm then compelled to stop by.

Given the recent weather, I was surprised at the impressive results of the MTU Winter Carnival Snow Statue competition. But it was very disturbing to see a large white statue totally surrounded by brownish green grass. Too bad about no broom ball. Those rinks are severely shrinking.

The Tobacco River Park, is a great place for a stop, maybe even today? It doesn't seem so long ago when it looked more like this:

That is so beautiful...when I could walk the beach,
I found tons of sea glass at the mouth of Tobacco
River...There was lots in the L'Anse area
too...right out in front of the park. There ya go
