We have a quartet of photos from four different photographers to wrap up this week. All four of them highlight why the U.P. is Someplace Special. We start off with a shot from Brenda Leigh in the Brimley area. She posted her photo, saying: “Fall gently snowflakes. Cover me with white Cold icy kisses and let me rest tonight.” Brenda snapped this photo on a Monocle Lake hike, with the icicles hanging from the branch looking like icicle kisses and the reflection in the water appearing as shadow mushrooms. Beautiful!

The next photo comes to us from 906 Images with a plethora of icy bells hanging over Lake Superior. The ice bells are amazing in themselves, but add in the sun, the steam rising off Superior and the colors...simply gorgeous!

Number three in the line-up was snapped by Stacey Flood in the Eagle Harbor area. Stacey said this is her favorite tree and it sits in her direct view while looking out at Lake Superior from her property. She has taken so many different photos of it and they’re all different in some aspect, but this one, the colors were full cotton candy colors in the sky that evening. What a great description, I couldn’t have said it better. Outstanding, both sight and words!

Last, but not least by any means, is a different kind of rainbow scene that Taana Blom captured on her way to church recently, like an archway to guide them there through the clouds. Her friend actually owns the property on either side of the road in this scene and she commented that the treasure is the land itself, that’s her “pot of gold”. Such a unique and beautiful shot!

We’re taking a look at the history in the Keweenaw, that Visit Keweenaw says runs deep. They give us a flashback to some of their adventures in history during 2023 and they wonder which historical sites did you visit in 2023 and which ones are you looking forward to exploring in the new year, 2024?

Thanks everyone for an interesting selection of photos from UP there. The icicles are intriguing, as are the images they suggested of bells and kisses! 906 'got lucky' and found the beautiful sunrise/sunset for the perfect backdrop.

All beautiful shots. Kudos to the
photographers who were in the
right place at the right time. And
the video was very cool too.
Having somewhat of a snowstorm
last night and today. Though it's
not looking like what they
predicted. We'll take it!

Beautiful photos, mother nature at her best. A good
argument for climate cycles

Unreal. What stunning photos....

I listen to an elderly Navajo weekly on You Tube.
He said "The Holy People have White in their
Rainbows". Looks like this one belongs to them!

The video is amazing....so very cool....

Winter finally arrived! I was reading in the
Keweenaw Reporter that some counties will ask the
State for help. No snow took away a LARGE portion
of the annual income. I hope they get help!

It appears that the operative words for
today’s set include; intriguing, beautiful,
stunning, amazing! And I couldn’t agree more.
But allow me to add…”Da bomb!”.
My favorite is #2, Ice Bells Hanging.
Many thanks to all who contributed!!!

Simply awesome photos today, thanks Mary for posting.
Hey Donna I told you last week I'd be sending Heikke Lunta back to you on a bus. Looks like he made the trip!!

Four great sets of eyes are greatly appreciated as they take the time and make the effort to capture more stellar works of art created by Mother Nature. Unlike geology, these works not just beautiful but also fleeting. It takes not just an eye for such wonderful images but also skill & timing.

I just received my copy of Capt. Paul's "Michigan Rocks". Great timing as we're in for 3 days of double digit negative temperatures (at least no more snow!). My single stage snow blower didn't stand a chance against all this snow. I sure could have used a Yooper Scooper.

All great pics & video, thanks for sharing.

That
third pic and the pink sky, reminds me of Sharon
Smith talking about the Venus Girdle. Do any of you
recall her mentioning that? Or do I have it wrong?

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Sunday, January 14, 2024 - 10:52 am:

UC…I don’t recall her mentioning that ,
but her website was a daily stop right
after Pasty Central. I sure do miss the ol’ Gal.
I wonder what ever became of Grayson, her cat???

By Donna (Donna) on Sunday, January 14, 2024 - 11:29 am:

Hey George....right on...you done good!!

Like I said, some counties are applying to the
State to help with income...they lost a HUGE
portion of income due to lack of snow. I sent the
link to a friend that's a business owner in the
Harbor...she was THRILLED to see that...they are
hurting bad.

If you own a snowmobile and are looking for
Snowmobile Heaven....head NORTH!

By D. A. (Midwested) on Sunday, January 14, 2024 - 04:28 pm:

Well Donna, this Polar Vortex can go back now.

Unfortunately, here in Northern IL we got too much of your snow (over TWO FEET this week) and more of your cold that even you have. Right now it's 20 degrees COLDER HERE than in Houghton.

Stay safe everyone and someone please sell me their old Yooper Scooper.

The harsh weather in all The Great Lakes have sent Boats scurrying for cover. MLive did a bit when the Arthur Anderson took a break in Little Traverse Bay (the other one by Petosky). It made it north through the Soo but is presently laying low in a Canadian harbor.

I found this screen shot from Marine Traffic amusing. Boats enter their destinations into the tracking system but this time someone on the Kay Barker, in Keweenaw Bay had a bit of a sense of humor:
