This past year, Laurie Bashaw and her hubby, Edward, completed the 100 mile challenge hiking on the North Country Trail in the Marquette area. There are actually 4800 miles of North Country National Trail, from North Dakota to New York. Luckily for Laurie and Ed, much of it goes through the Marquette area, so they are close by to engage in this challenge. For 2023, Ed completed 201.37 miles and Laurie completed 234.07 miles. She said their goal for 2024 is 300 miles and they already have 8 miles in. Way to go Laurie and Ed!

Laurie said they’re fortunate to have the trail go through Marquette County, so when they want to walk/hike some “easy” miles, they walk the lakeshore in Marquette. Today’s photos were snapped on a recent walk they took there. She had this to say about the eagle photos: “I don’t know if it’s the same eagle in both photos, but we have seen one in the same tree 3 times now. I imagine it’s a good hunting spot! As we were walking back to the car, “he” was still in the same spot and then, about a half a mile past, I asked Ed if he thought there was another eagle in this one tree when, up from the lakeshore, flies an eagle. We just stood and watched as it flew. There was another eagle in a different tree, but too many little limbs to get a good picture. We talked with a couple of guys that were also watching and they said they had seen three of them! How fun to watch these magnificent birds.”

Watching birds and critters is a great past-time here UP North. We join the Woodsy Introverts and their German Shepherds as they deliver some pumpkins in the woods for the deer to munch, plus we get a look at the deer on their game camera, enjoying the treats!

What a great set! Love all the pics and
the video is so much fun to watch. I love the
interactions with the dogs.
Thanks for taking us along Mr. and Mrs. Bashaw
and Woodsy Introverts.

Beautiful birds. And the rest of
the photos are amazing also.

Those birds are huge. Just magnificent.

Hi
Laurie & Edward were fortunate to see those eagles.
And those German Shepherds & their humans are
fortunate to have those woods to romp around in.

It's nice to see that the pumpkins are put out for
the animals. Similarly, my old Christmas tree is
going to be put to good use. A local Boy Scout troop
collects them, for a donation, and delivers them to
a farm with goats who enjoy eating them.

Hi again
I saw an article in the newspaper that someone in
Toivola caught a picture of a cougar on his trail
cam. And he also has a video of a cougar attacking a
deer. Both these were in December of 2023.

Boy I really enjoyed those pictures and video!!

I put the video on full screen and Finn & Whitaker
could hear it of course and Finn jumped up on my
lap to watch the video. I know you won't believe
me, but Finn can and actually enjoys watching Tv
like The Dog Whisper etc... he can also watch my
laptop. If he hears a certain commercial begin
that has dogs in it he will run from wherever he
is in the house and sit in front of the TV and
watch the whole thing same with a TV show like The
Dog Whisper or the AKC Kennel Best in Show Awards.

Alex and I are getting our first pretty good storm
here in SE MI right now. Yea!! lol have a Great
Weekend All, SHEESH!!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, January 12, 2024 - 07:35 pm:

Kathryn, how great that the Boy
Scouts do that. What a great idea!

We were supposed to get a storm,
and I'm sure we still will, but
right now there's not much of
anything. U.C. and Alex, you can
keep it down there.
