The six ladies picture here in Beth Jukuri’s photos are always UP for a challenging adventure and their hike of Silver Mountain proved to be a good challenge with the reward of outstanding views. Silver Mountain is southwest of Baraga, near the Sturgeon River Gorge and Wilderness area. The summit is a series of outcrops of bare rock, many of which show scars of glacier scour with grooves left in the rock. You can find out more about Silver Mountain by clicking on this link from Visit Keweenaw: Silver Mountain Hiking

Beth and the gang found plenty of beauty along the hiking trails there, along with several views of the huge cliff walls of the mountain. The fourth photo with one of the ladies standing in front of the cliff, gives you a great perspective of the height of that rock cliff wall. Besides the photo of the smiling hikers, my favorite shot is the last one with the boots all lined up together and the colors just beyond them.

TourDaYoop is taking us on a fall color drive at Craig Lake State Park with tidbits about the park along the way. The park is located in Champion, in Baraga County and is known for being an extremely remote State Park. For more information about the park, click on the following link: Michigan DNR-Craig Lake State Park

Friends enjoying each other and enjoying what they do.
It doesn’t get much better than that.
Thanks for taking us along!
And a nice road cruise to boot!

Silver Mountain. Holy wha. A friend took me up
there once. ONCE. You climb over 800 steps to get
to the top. My legs were done...I told my doc "I
think my friend tried to kill me, taking me up
there"...he said "She didn't do a very good job,
did she?"....lol....Someone needs to do some
logging up there tho...that used to be an awesome
look out..When I went, none of the trees in the one
pic were there. You could see for miles, and it was
growing in then....But it is an awesome outing...if
you can do it!

These guys always have such wonderful
adventures. I wish I would be able to keep
up with them because they always have such a
good time. Great pictures, Beth! Thanks for
the hike.

That is one big, smooth, cliff.
I've never heard of Silver Mountain and this hike.
I wonder how many other things UP here I've never heard about.
I bet it's a bunch.

I hadn't heard of it either, D.A.

I agree - what a great way to spend your time! And what a great trip along the Craig Lake road.

Saw a story about the Lake Superior Performance Rally this weekend. Is this a new version of what used to be called the Press On Regardless race?

By D. A. (Midwested) on Saturday, October 14, 2023 - 08:14 pm:

jbuck,

It’s sort of the evolution of the old POR rally, although the POR has still been held every year, this year near Gaylord. The LSPR sort of took over the POR UP rally when in 1994, the Detroit region SCCA moved the rally closer to home in the lower peninsula. It also became less of an all out race.

A close high school buddy of mine, Doug Shepherd, was the co-driver/navigator of a very famous driver, John Buffum, that won the POR 4 times. I even worked as part of their crew one year in 1975. My friend later went on to be a driver and win best in class in Lake Superior Performance Rallys and place quite high overall a few times.

History of the POR

Very interesting DA!

Had no idea that when we were enjoying the POR that it had just been brought to the Yoop. Understand the logistics, but this is the perfect place to run it! Just being a spectator was a riot, but being involved had to be the best.
