Last week one day, Deb Simons and hubby Ron were on their way back from Marquette and spotted some beautiful color along US41 near Canyon Falls. What a sight it was! The color all around the Keweenaw has been either bursting in some areas or just a smattering of it developing, depending on where and when you’re exploring. That’s something that always surprises me, year after year, how the colors peak sooner in some areas and not so soon in others. I guess that makes the color season last longer for us all.

With fall, comes crazy weather. On this same day, Deb recorded a video of a portion of their drive from Three Lakes to the Covington Junction... with rain, hail, thunder and lightning, they could barely see through the windshield, not to mention the sounds of the storm, too. There were cars all over the sides of the road waiting for the storm to subside and tree branches down all around. She said it was strange how they drove through miles with that happening and then nothing, like it hadn’t even rained and today’s pictures was the outcome after that storm.

Looks like Autumn is a bit early this year. This is the first one I'll be missing in quite a while so I'm glad I have Pasty Central to quench that thirst.

Now we just need to find a way to get my favorite Ambassador pizza headed my way. Maybe if I ordered enough frozen pasties I could get a frozen pizza or two get mixed in the packaging.

What's that old saying, "if you don't like the U.P. weather, wait 5 minutes."? Maybe it could be instead "wait a couple of miles."?

Looks like I might be a week late for the colours in the UP. Maybe I'll get to see them downstate and in Ohio/Pennsylvania though.....

Yup! That was quite a storm. When we got
home our neighbor asked if we hit the one
little small cell of bad weather that he saw
happening. But of course we did. And it's
funny what the camera picks up because we
couldn't see much out of the window but the
camera could. And thanks for the

That looks like the same storm we hit last week (a few hundred miles South)- but we didn't get the hail. Could hardly see out the windshield and the defroster was barely keeping up. Thankful you made it home safely.

Here's a satellite photo from yesterday. The color is much more intense and "ahead" of the Keweenaw. Both, Hwy-28 west of Covington and Hwy-38 west of Baraga are always great tours at the right time. At this point it looks like the color extends all the way into Wisconsin more so than the Keweenaw.

Things get even more amazing looking. You just have to hope for some days of clear weather without all the clouds. Not a high percentage this time of year.
