Lots of youngsters take the plunge off the Blackrocks in Marquette, it’s kind of a rite of passage for many Northern Michigan college students, but 906 Images just happened to be there photographing the sunrise when two brothers decided to make the jump with the sunrise as their backdrop. Neither of them knew they were being photographed until afterwards, as it was completely unplanned, but how fun that they now have these pictures to remember their plunge into the cold morning waters of Lake Superior. Of course my favorite of the series is the third shot, with one of the brothers holding the sun! And I can only imagine the feel of your feet just hitting the Big Lake in the fifth shot, I bet it took their breath away for a moment. I’m guessing there may have been a squeal of delight as they entered the water.

Steve Brimm rounds out these sunrise photos for us here today, with a Copper Harbor sunrise video. Someone commented “Oh, what a beautiful morning!”, with another adding, “Oh what a beautiful day!”. That is the perfect song to accompany both the photos and the video, feel free to sing while viewing. But to get the complete effect of the video, make sure you have your volume turned UP, so you can hear when the water hits the rocks on shore.

Speaking of NMU, congrats to Northern Michigan University’s Athletic Director Rick Comely who was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday. Back in the day he was our first hockey coach. Remarkable career!

What a beautiful set of pictures. I think I
saw these on fb but am not sure. And yes,
what a great way to be able to remember
their jump. And not to take away from the
sunrise. It's breathtaking! Loved the video
as well.

What excellent pics and a soothing video!! I sure
miss being up there and the black rocks, it doesn't
get much better for great shockingly cold swimming!

I echo jbucks comments regarding Coach Comley! An
excellent coach for our Cat's and MSU as well. I
know he was a consultant for the Chicago Blackhawks,
he could and should have been a coach in the NHL, he
was and is that good. Sure glad he's back at NMU as
the AD, I hope they can talk him into staying on for
a long time!!
