Jeff Dennis, his wife Chris and their four-legged kid, Fritz spent some time navigating the Big Traverse River for a peaceful kayaking adventure. Honestly, I think Fritz is actually the Captain of these excursions and directs where to go, sitting up front like he does. Check out the photo of them entering the culvert under the Big Traverse Road...it really does look like they’re entering another dimension. Jeff did tell me that they went all the way through to the other side and from my own experience, if the current is running strong, it’s an uphill paddle. Not to mention quite echoey inside, but totally a fun experience, especially on the way back through if the current is pushing you along then.

On the way out to Big Traverse, Jeff spotted a Sandhill Crane in a field near Rice Lake and he stopped to record this video. Make sure your sound is turned up, so you can hear the prehistoric-like call the Sandhill makes.

Cool pictures. Looks so relaxing. Was fun to
hear the sand hill crane too.

Very cool pix and you’re right, something strange happened while
paddling into the fifth dimension.
Neat video too!

These are so cool...love the sandhill too!

What a great water trip.

Mary, your description of the culvert made me think you were rifting off Jim Morrison by "breaking on through to the other side". The psychedelic effects didn't hurt either.

What is the official name for the little community located there. I assume "Big Traverse", but the maps I've seen never label it. When I've driven along Big Traverse Road the cabins and low profile docks always looked so quaint.

And that lone crane...Is he lost or just a scout?

Great pics & video! That 5th pic of Fritz is my
favorite and Mary I think you're right; he looks
like he's directing. That 5th pic looks like Fritz
is turning around and asking to step up the pace a
bit!! lol.
