Beautiful and elaborate. It's so nice the weather cooperated with the Sun and that strange Blue stuff for some great photos this year. It's very difficult to record decent contrast when it's overcast with no shadows.
In my MTU days I never got to enjoy Winter Carnival much during the judging and competition days as I was consistently scrambling to take official photos for the Lode and yearbook. The skits were held at Houghton or Hancock high schools. And it also required hours in the “dark room”. Knowing that the pictures you take will likely be the only record of the evening or event adds a bit of pressure.
Working on the building of the statues was always a lot of fun. I think occasionally some of the "Over-nighters" can be spot on but always impressive (well most anyway).
In my 2nd year living in DHH we broke the mold when the entire dorm was entered in the Division 1 Men's class for the 1st time and we swept most categories, including statue. We used steel beams (now outlawed I think) and plywood forms. It was quite elaborate for the time, but today's statues are even larger, more sophisticated and intricate. I wonder what the newer techniques are. I know they use clothes irons now which is “new”. I don’t remember how long it took to amend the rules back then.
