Cathy McKenzie teamed up with her friend, Marcy recently to do some exploring of the winter beauty on the south shore of Lake Superior. Cathy said It was a gray sky day, but warmer temperatures made the adventure fun to be out and about. They started at Bete Grise with a look at the Mendota Lighthouse and the Lac La Belle channel. Along the way there were stops to check out the icy shores, with a spotting of an ice cap balancing on the remains of a tree that fell into the water, sheets of ice formed off tree branches and a shoreline tree bent over with the weight of the frozen waves on its branches near Brunette Park. A stop to see what the Tobacco River is doing this time of year completed their adventure for the day. Cathy summed UP their day by reminding us all that, “Winter has so much beauty when we stop to enjoy it!”
