Jeff Dennis along with his wife, Chris and their four-legged “kid”, Fritz were out at Little Traverse for a trek on snowshoes, checking out the Lake Superior shoreline and heading for the mouth of the Mud Lake Creek. You can see there’s a little snow and ice on the shoreline where they were snowshoeing, but no real build up yet. I love the photo of Fritz! Jeff said that he loves his trips to the camp, the beach or the woods, so I guess you could say he’s quite the adventurer!

The three deer photo, Jeff said it was actually darker than what the photo shows, so he had a light on his head and Chris had a lantern, so he thinks perhaps the deer could only see the light and weren’t afraid, as they kept running towards them, not turning away. Jeff and Chris couldn’t quite make out what it was running toward them until they stopped about 100 feet from them. They were quite relieved to see it was deer and not wolves or some other predator animal. The second deer photo was an afternoon shot of their visitors. Surprising that the beach is still showing there, but nice for the deer to be able to get a drink of fresh water.

Jeff shares a short video of the snowshoe adventure. I like how quiet it was along the shoreline there. All you can hear is the crunch of the snowshoes, the water hitting the shoreline ice and a bit of wind. Perfect!

Is this an odd year, with the lake being "open" like
this? Seems like mid-January, it should be frozen
as far as the eye can see. Just wondering...

How stunning, and right on Jeff....if there is a
light, the deer won't see past that. Someone told
me that decades ago, and it works!! I got lots of
pics that way.....I love Fritz....that dog has a
better life than I do~ The leash is awesome too.

Love these pictures. That's really something
to see the lake so open and no ice chunks
anywhere. It's really been a mild winter so
far. I'd have been a little worried about
what animals were out there too. The dog
sure seems to have a good time too.
