When Melanie Hakala Rossi gets together with friends, you can bet there’s going to be an exploring adventure. This day, they snowshoed up to the top of the Cliffs near Phoenix to check out the view and what a view they had. Along the trek they also stopped to check out the old chimney stacks from the Cliff mining days. I’m not sure of the year these structures would have been built, but from what I could find, the last mining at this location was in 1908, so that means these stacks have been standing there for at least 114-115 years, possibly more, since mining there began in 1845. That says something about how well they were constructed back then.
Speaking of how long things have been around, we’re joining Alexis Dahl for a look at the story of the Blackrocks in Marquette. She says she could have stood there one billion years ago! The video is a little over twelve minutes, but filled with so much information you’ll be glad you sat back to learn more.

Great pictures! I just love that second one. They're all wonderful but the 2nd one grabs me. Interesting reading about it too. Thanks for that, Mary. Things were definitely built sturdier back then. We're going to have to take the side by side up there this coming summer
I don't want to rush through Alexis so I'll come back to that. I'm sure it'll be just as interesting as all of her stuff. For some reason, I thought we already covered the Blackrocks, though. Maybe that was somewhere else.

Interesting stuff! Their estimates were off by a billion or two…I wish
Nice pics and informative video. Had plenty of good times out at the Black Rocks. Probably wouldn't do it again, too hard to climb back up to the top once you're in the water after jumping or diving and swimming to shore... I might not make it! lol
