Over the weekend, Chad Johnson was out in Houghton, snapping a few pictures across the canal. His first shot includes the spire that sits atop the Douglass House Apartments building in downtown Houghton, as you’re looking out toward the Quincy Mine Shaft. The color on the hillside there is definitely late fall hues and pretty in those subdued shades. In Chad’s second shot we get a look at the historic mining ruins that are on the Ripley shoreline with the background of late fall colors. Great shots!
Then Chad takes us to his family camp on Gratiot Lake for a relaxing weekend. That fourth photo looks like the perfect fall morning to me...relaxing in the morning sun with a good book, and a cup of coffee or tea would be wonderful there. I can almost smell fall in those last two pictures and of course hear the rustling of the leaves underfoot as the dogs run on ahead, too. Talk about a relaxing weekend!
Our video and the small photo after these notes come to us from Jeremy Jordan who sent them in, saying: “Recently, the members of the Copper Range Railroad Historical and Technical Society gathered in the Copper Country for our first convention. During that event, we visited the Quincy Roundhouse where Chuck Pomazal and his crew had Qunicy & Torch Lake #6 outside. They had pulled the engine out the day prior, and as it was pushed back inside the now restored roundhouse you can still hear the "chuff" of the engine! The photo below is #6 outside, fully (cosmetically) restored.
