Hummingbirds here in the Keweenaw have been super busy at the feeders lately, storing up needed energy for their long migration south for the winter. If I’m not mistaken, I think their tiny little wings take them all the way to South America for their annual migration. That’s pretty amazing when you stop and think about it.
Today’s first two photos are from Chris Hendra over at Chris Hendra Photography. He sure has the knack and know-how when it comes to stopping the motion and capturing critters. It feels like you could reach out and touch those tiny feathers.
The bottom two shots were snapped by Jean Dessellier at her Traprock Valley feeders. Here again, great close-ups of these busy little birds. They will soon take off to their southern winter home, so these shots here today are a nice send-off to these little feathered friends.
Chickdees are the subject for today’s video, with five awesome Chickadee abilities from Lesley the Bird Nerd. Thankfully with fall and winter approaching, these fun birds to watch will be back visiting the feeders in full force again, so they’ll entertain us until the Hummingbirds return in the spring.

What I've noticed, is when the babies start coming
out to feed...they don't have the bigger tail
feathers like the adults do...these all look
adult...could be babies that grew and are ready for
the big cruise!
