Just north of Gay, on the Gay/Lac La Belle road, you’ll find the Tobacco River rushing down to meet Lake Superior. That’s where the Tobacco River Park is located also. Barbara Bouwkamp was out there recently and shares these photos with us here today. It’s just a small park with a few picnic tables and grills, along with an outhouse, which is handy if you’re going to spend some time there having a picnic. It’s also a great place to launch kayaks, my hubby and I have done so numerous times, but only when the Big Lake is calm. It’s a great place to unwind and watch Lake Superior.

Douglas Feltman takes us to another U.P. spot, East of Chatham, Michigan on I-94 where you’ll find the entrance to Au Train Falls. He describes the visit as follows: A short drive down Power Dam Road you pass the upper falls. This view is obstructed by huge water pipes, so you're headed down the road to the lower parking. The path down is paved and kind of steep. This is a dam so there are pump buildings and a bridge across the river. There are picnic tables so you can have lunch by the waterfall if you would like.

This looks like another great place to unwind and enjoy the sounds of waterfalls.

That leaning tree just won't give up. Looks like Aspen or Birch?.

I wonder if that's the same one I saw years ago. Probably not as there's so much constant erosion going on. There's was always another interesting Pine just up the road near Brunette Park.

I love this spot. On one of our windiest
days last fall we decided to drive around
that side of the lake to see some wave
action. That was our first stop. It was
awesome! And I just really enjoy stopping
there whenever we take a drive. And as D.A.
said, Brunett Park is a few miles up the
road. It's another great stop for a picnic
or just to watch the lake. All along that
lakeshore drive there are places to pull
over and sit by the lake. It's just a
gorgeous drive. We usually go north on the
other side of the lake, through Eagle River
and Eagle Harbor, because it's so beautiful.
But it's beautiful the other way too. I
wonder how many of us just don't appreciate
the absolute beauty of this area. No matter
which way we decide to drive, it just does
not disappoint. Winters are hard, but summer
makes you forget all about it.

Thanks for sharing and yet another beautiful
video.

Greetings:

RE: The video.

Alger County has been a part of my family's vacation life for 44 years and never ceases to amaze.

Even if all one does is make a roadside stop, Alger County has many falls that are easy to walk to.

The falls flow freely in the Spring but so do the bugs. The Fall is the best time to see the falls as there are NO bugs.

In 56 'UP years' I never found a bug repellent that fully worked in any UP forest.

Beautiful pics & video! One of many great roadside
parks.

The south shore doesn't get the winds and rough
seas that the north shore typically does hence,
it's a little warmer and nicer for swimming too
and sandier beaches for the most part.

JT- my most effective bug repellent usually
involves gun powder & brass!! :=))

8 Days and counting until the Steel belts are
hummin on the asphalt. Can't wait, looking forward
to blowing off the stink of the big city as GN
used to say! lol
