Another set of photos from E. Neil Harri today. Let me preface these notes with how quickly conditions can change. Neil’s photos were taken last week, so the ice in Lac La Belle and the Mendota Canal may have changed by now. With that being said, it does also show that closer to Lake Superior, the air is cooler, so the ice on inland lakes takes a bit longer to melt away.
What a view each of these photos are today...looking out toward the tip of the Keweenaw in two of them and then the back toward Lac La Belle and at Bete Grise. It’s so neat to see the little tributaries in and around the Mendota Canal area there. A number of years ago, my hubby and I did some kayaking around there, up and down the fingers of water, exploring what you normally can’t see by land.
Last November 26, 2021 we featured a video from Alexis Dahl about the invention of the Fresnel Lens. She had spent the day with Nick Korstad, the lighthouse keeper at Big Bay Point Lighthouse to learn the story. Today’s video is a continuation of that day spent with Nick and what Alexis found out about being a lighthouse keeper. She says she actually found out that it requires even more work and dedication than she had imagined.

Just Fantastic pics of LLB & BG!! I never get tired of seeing these pics and it's a special treat from the air, thanks Neil for taking us along.
Very cool video from Alexis and done very well, as expected with her interjections throughout the video. Very informative, nice work!!
Probably went out to Big Bay only a couple times while at NMU. Would like to put that back on the list of things to do again and spend a little more time out there.

Beautiful pix & an interesting video. D.A. posted this interesting video the other day. The subject was lonely sounding for horns. https://youtu.be/iHCmzvzCmhI
