Mount Baldy, (a.k.a. Lookout Mountain) is 730 feet above Lake Superior, near Eagle Harbor and gives you outstanding views of the Big Lake and the Keweenaw Peninsula, not to mention Lake Bailey nearby, too. We have the pleasure of taking flight with E. Neil Harri for a look at the mountain and the lake from up above, which of course is the easiest way to see the top of Mt. Baldy. It’s quite the hike in the summer months, totaling 6 miles round trip, but is well worth it to stand on top the mountain and take in the view. But for those that can’t make the three mile hike uphill, especially in the winter and then another 3 miles back, being Neil’s copilot today is the next best thing.

Michigans Keweenaw Peninsula shares a short video of snowshoe hiking Mount Baldy, so you can get an idea of what that might be like. Keep in mind that if you venture up there on snowshoes, it could take up to two hours to get to the top, with added time for the descent back down.

Before I ever got to here, I was thinking "Neil has been up in his plane again..." Top photo really shows the angle of the Mid Continent Rift nicely.

Busted many a XC-Ski trail up there when I was
younger. Was often icy on top.
