George C. Bailey said the conditions were right for these photographs he snapped this past Tuesday and that the last time it was right was in April. He photographed these Auroras on the north shore of the Keweenaw Peninsula, overlooking Lake Superior near Dans Point, west of Copper Harbor. Luckily they were a little earlier in the evening, between 7:00 and 7:30 p.m., so he didn’t have to be up in the middle of the night to get these outstanding Northern Light photos. I asked George about the photos where the shoreline looks like it’s covered with white snow. He said that someone had taught him how to “paint” trees using a flashlight, so he used that technique to “paint” the shoreline rocks in the third and bottom photos. Pretty unique!
Steve Brimm over at Steve Brimm Photography was a few miles up the road from George when he made today’s video, which he named 20 seconds of solace and then added that it’s actually 34 seconds of Hello December. Turn up your speakers to get the full effect of the waves hitting the rocks.

A very nice way to start the day with such
breathtaking shots. And it's always nice to
wake up to the sound of Lake Superior.
Have a great day!
