Just about a week ago, Judy Byykkonen was enjoying one of her favorite places, Calumet Waterworks Park (a.k.a. Bucky’s). That day the Lake Superior waters had frozen over the shoreline rocks, coating them with ice of all different sorts. Some with ripples, like the water froze in place as it was running off the rocks, some frozen as it pooled in crevices, some formed icicles as the water ran off the rocks, freezing before it could run back into the Big Lake. The icy art is something to behold and of course changes quickly, as the weather changes around it. Luckily, we get to enjoy it as long as we’d like with Judy sharing her captures with us all.

Right around the same time, Steve Brimm from Steve Brimm Photography was out in the woods somewhere near Copper Harbor. He gives us a glimpse of 20 seconds of winter knocking on the door. It was a windy, blustery day, but Steve’s hiking partner ahead of him looks to be dressed for the adventure.

FOOTNOTE: In case you missed yesterday's photos from Beth Jukuri of the wintry changes on her route and Steve Brimm's Serenity video, just click here: Dec. 1st, to take a look at them!

Pretty but dangerous for our old bones. Ice
isn't my friend. Looked like it was hard
work walking a straight line in that wind
too. And it looks like another windy one
today. Ron will probably wanna go to the
lake. Retirement can be hard work.

Nnnn-ice! 3 & 4 reminds me of one of my all-time
favorite past pix...I believe it was called the
Lake Monster, or something like that.

The second one looked like an ice alligator.

As soon as I saw the first picture I knew where it
was; it's actually what is left of the old Calumet
Waterworks dock. It was in terrible condition for
many years and finally, last year, it was torn apart
by the county, I believe. Nothing left but that pile
of rock, concrete and some steel. I used to play on
it 60 years ago while my grandfather worked his job
in the 'pump house' right there. Memories, sadly all
gone now.
