Sally Beaudette and family did some camping and exploring on the eastern end of the U.P. recently. We’re joining them in Grand Marais for a look at the Pickle Barrel Museum. Sally said the museum wasn’t open, but they did get a photo of three of her grandkids in front and then a shot of the Michigan Historic Site info sign. Check it out for more about the Pickle Barrel.
From there, they headed to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and took a boat tour where Sally snapped the shots of Miner’s Castle, the people in the caves and the fallen chunk from the cliff wall. Those folks in the caves are all in swimsuits, which makes me wonder if they were there off a boat or did they swim or walk there along the water’s edge? Inquiring minds want to know!
In researching what type of rock the Pictured Rocks Cliffs are, it mentioned Jacobsville Sandstone among some of the rock. We had a video from Dr. Nat (Nathalie Brandes) on Wednesday about the Jacobsville Sandstone in the Keweenaw...interesting how far and widespread it is.
Today’s video from Dr. Nat is about the Keweenaw Fault of the Midcontinent Rift System at Haven Falls in Lac La Belle. So much we look at around the Keweenaw and don’t realize how it was formed and when.

Beautiful set and I love Dr. Nat's explanations! I'd love to hear her driving directions; "Keep going and make a right at the continental shelf just pass the first tectonic plate. Then keep going until you come to Rift Valley. And if you get lost, it's not my Fault."

Greetings:
Very informative video. Thank you, Dr. Nat.
The Keweenaw fault line and the Haven Falls makes me wonder if the Natural Wall is there because it is part of the same fault.
Then, what has to happen to a continent on a planet to make it move in reverse? Would a well placed meteor do that?
Just something for me to ponder about like "Brain" might do in 'Pinky and the Brain'.
Thank you, Dr. Nat! Always interesting to hear about places you have been and never thought about why it is the way it is!
Picture #6 is why i would never do what they are doing in picture #5.
Guess i never read the Historical Marker about the Pickle House when we were there - i thought it was actually a giant brining barrel and then converted to a cottage. Thanks for the enlightenment!

I have never spent time in and around Grand Marais. It's been on my to do list for awhile now.
Dr. Nat has been busy recently adding to her YouTube Channel in quite a nice fashion.
When I saw the 6th photo my 1st reaction was it had squashed the 5 fellows in the 5th.
