The ladies of the WIND (Women in New Directions) group has a mission as follows: “Empowering women thru art, nature, and movement to overcome life challenges and embrace their own unique spirit!” These ladies hike, bike ride, kayak and camp out together, just to name a few of their activities, but they also give back to their community in beautiful ways. Their adopted garden on the Houghton Waterfront is one of those ways. This past week they cleaned up their garden, getting over a bag and a half of leaves and old growth, making it ready for new flowers and plants, along with other artistic additions.

Beth Jukuri snapped these photos and commented that the tulips are coming along. The ones in the photos Beth called “outliers” and said the most of the others were still wrapped tightly in buds, yet to bloom beautiful. Nice to have some early bloomers and then some that will open up a bit later. After the ladies cleaned up their garden site, they took a walk along the Houghton Waterfront, enjoying the sunny evening and views along the Portage Canal.

Speaking of views, E. Neil Harri shares a view of a Keweenaw wetland, but more importantly, the sounds of the wetland. Make sure you turn your speakers up, so you can hear all the peepers!

I love peepers...when I lived in Baraga, I'd go sit
behind the hospital and I swear...all the peepers
lived in the little pond behind it.....it was
incredible!
