The ice along the Keweenaw shoreline of Lake Superior sure has changed in the last month or so. There wasn’t much build-up during the first few months of winter, but the north shore has plenty now. Melanie Hakala Rossi was up near Esrey Park this past weekend and she sure found some interesting formations. Those first two shots almost look like an amphitheater carved into the ice. The ice in the third photo is smooth enough to be an ice rink. Then those last two shots, WOW, I wonder how thick that is frozen on those rocks and the bumpy, chunky expanse. Must have been difficult walking on that icy surface.
A peaceful video today, more sound than sight, recorded by Cathy McKenzie. She said these church bells chime every day at noon and at 6:00 p.m. in her little community of Ahmeek. No matter what she’s doing, when she hears those chimes, she knows what time it is.
