When Judy Byykkonen took a drive to the Harbor, she noticed just a smidgen of fall color beginning on the trees. And in other spots, no change at all yet. But that tinge of color is just a reminder that the burst of fall colors isn’t too far off now, as we get closer to the Autumn season.
The photos Judy snapped are all classic shots of Copper Harbor, but that first one is my favorite, from the seagull flying into the shot, to that quaint little bridge to get to the “island retreat” right there in the Harbor. Then again, most pictures taken around Copper Harbor are favorites. It’s really a special place and we’re lucky to have it so close to us here in the Keweenaw.

Nice...especially the first pic, the cabin must be on stilts. The video reminds be of Roan Mountain, Tennessee. https://tnstateparks.com/parks/roan-mountain

This is making me homesick. This could very well be the first year I won't get back. Due to my back issues I still find it difficult to drive more than an hour or so. I'm working on therapy so we'll see. I was SO hoping to meetup with U.C, assuming he gets UP in a few weeks.
Alex, I think that's a boat house, built on a dock. Maybe?

Fantastic pics & video!!
D.A. I hope to get U.P. there, depends if I can reschedule a couple rehab sessions and If the "Sarge" let's me go!! lol D.A. I'll let you know if it's going to happen and when.
Marty and I'd shoot U.P. in his truck most likely and I'd promise her that we wouldn't try and get through the Beaver Pond on the way to Keystone Bay this time. Marty won't take his truck swimming, he likes this one too much. lol

You made my day! That "island retreat" is Duck Island. My grandfather Alfons Bonde Sr. bought it back in the early 50's (I think) and it remains in the family today. The cabin isn't on stilts. It is lovely though - a true log cabin. So many summers spent in Copper Harbor on Duck Island - thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories. I'll have to dig through the old pics - I know I have one of the boat house being built and one of the family gathered on the foot bridge for a family reunion in 1990.

Is my Copper Country geography getting rusty? I don't recognize Duck Island! Perhaps 'cuz it's private property? The only candidate I can find is this:
I'm a bit confused. It's not a boat house?

What you see in the first photo is the boat house. The cabin is harder to see. Check the satellite photo - you can see the boat house sticking out into the water and the cabin is in the middle of the island.
