If you’ve never been to Mackinac Island, you just don’t know what you’re missing. It’s really a unique place with no automobiles and the only mode of transportation in the spring, summer and fall, is by bicycle or in a horse drawn carriage. It’s truly a step back in time and to a less hectic pace of life. Well, sort of, because during the summer months, the Island is teeming with visitors.

My cousin, Karen Marsh, her hubby, Ed and their oldest Granddaughter were there recently and stayed at the Grand Hotel. Karen’s granddaughter loves to dress up and pose for pictures, so staying at the Grand was right up her alley. The first photo is a shot of her by the fountain on the Hotel grounds, with the Grand in the background. The second photo is the little sweetie in front of a greenery hedge on the grounds that has been trimmed to look like a horse and carriage.

The third and fourth photos are the real thing. They rented a horse drawn carriage for a tour around the Island and Grandpa Ed was their chauffeur. What an exciting adventure for a young girl, my cousin said she was so excited to be staying at this “fancy” hotel. I’m sure she must have felt like a Princess!

We have a video from the Grand Hotel, featuring their Historian with a series they had last summer that you could ask him questions about the Grand Hotel and he would give the answer. Looked like a great time for Karen, Ed and granddaughter. Do they actually let you drive your own horse drawn carriage? Or did I miss something? BTW, they do allow motorized golf carts on the 3 courses and you can bring your own private airplane, but not on the golf course, of course. I wonder about horses on the courses? We should ask Ed.

Whenever anyone brings up Mackinac Island (or more specifically the Grand Hotel) I cannot not keep from fondly reminiscing about one of my all time favorite movies..."Somewhere in Time" of course. OK, now that I got that image of Jane Seymore refreshed in my brain I'm gonna go watch the Straits Talk video. Looks like it's getting good reviews.
