Last Week we joined the Dennis family for a canoe trip to check out Sand Hills Lighthouse. Today, we’re going along to check out the partially sunken Dredge in Torch Lake, between Tamarack City and Mason. Jeff Dennis told me that his family has “set a goal of not taking our area for granted, so they are trying to get close to everything they can in the Keweenaw and beyond!” What a great family goal and a special gift for their kids, to get to experience all these places and the history they involve.
It doesn’t look like there is much left of the interior of the Dredge, from the shots Jeff took looking inside, just the structural beams and such. I asked Jeff if they went inside with their canoe, but he said he tried to get them to paddle inside, but the kids thought it was too scary.
Our video was made by Mike Gloss, taking us on a drone flight around the Dredge, the smoke stack and the ruins across the road. Interesting perspective to compliment the Dennis

Well, I must day I enjoyed the Sand Hills excursion better, but good for them for wanting to experience it all.

Three cheers for the Dennis family. With the water level still very high they must have gotten a good look inside the dredge.
Firefly alert in SE MI, check your smoke detectors...they're coming in hot and heavy.
