On Friday a number of locations here in the U.P., received snow. Yes, that’s right I said snow and yes, it is May. Some places just had a dusting, while others accumulated a few inches on the ground. I think most of it was melted by later that day or at least by the next. To top off the May snow, it was quite cold and windy, too.

During all of this, Laurie Bashaw and her hubby, Ed Korpi took a drive to check out a few of the attractions at the Pictured Rocks near Munising. Laurie’s first three photos are at Miners Castle, where she said the wind was brutal, but they endured and were glad they did. Despite the conditions, the photos and video turned out great. I’m guessing it all involved some frozen fingers, too.

They also stopped at Miners Falls, (photo number four), where Ed recorded a video, while Laurie was snapping photos. Ed described the falls as “swollen with the spring’s melting snow”. Just listen to the roar of the water!

Classics...all! As a kid,I can remember walking out to the 2 turrets and looking down at the lake...there were no barriers back then.

I remember reading, in the book Great Lakes
Shipwrecks and Survivals, that a ship was wrecked
off the Pictured Rocks. The crew made it to the
shore, but were then stuck at the bottom of the
cliffs. Fortunately somebody in a passing boat saw
them and they were rescued.

Beautiful photos of a beautiful (and interesting) area. While you guys were getting snow, it "felt" like 104 down here..... :/

I saw all of these pictures on Facebook and was so
jealous of all the time they get to spend
exploring. Their pictures that day were
phenomenal.
