Folks that don’t live here in the Copper Country, often ask what there is to do. There are so many historic sites to visit and interesting places to see, like the photos shared here by Cathy McKenzie. She said they took a ride last week to the Rockland area and visited the Victoria Dam on the west branch of the Ontonagon River. This dam was originally built for the Mining operations and is now operated by UPPCO.
Cathy also made a stop at Old Victoria, where there are four log cabins that have been restored to their original condition at this remote mining location. It gives folks who visit a glimpse of the life of the copper miners and their families here in Rockland. Visiting in the winter like this, shows even more of the hardship back in those days, when there were no modern snow removal machines like we have nowadays.
Speaking of snow removal machines, today’s video was filmed after what the video calls Snow Bomb in Calumet. If you’ve never seen Calumet Village’s snow removal operation or even if you have, it’s quite the job and they have it perfected to what some may consider an art.

Old Victoria looks beautiful in the snow but the living certainly wasn't easy for those folks back in the day.
The snow removal operation is impressive - where do they dump all the snow they take off the streets?
