I’ve often said this when sharing photos from Beth Jukuri, that she has a great view from her “office” inside the jeep she delivers mail from. Beth often sees interesting phenomenons, such the subjects of her photos here today. That’s the Sturgeon River in Chassell, which Beth notes is looking more like it does in the Springtime, than in the dead of winter right now. The river is open for the most part and is high on the banks, but it has receded somewhat in the last weeks, too. You can see how much by the “ice tables” that are left hanging on to the trunks of groups of trees. When I first looked at Beth’s photos here, they were small, so that I thought the ice still frozen around the trees was picnic tables in a park. Then when I opened them I realized it was ice, not tables at all. Quite interesting…
Since were talking rivers today, I thought I’d share another video from Keith Baker, the wheels-man on the Cason J. Callaway. Keith said this is the Callaway’s last pass through the Rock Cut in St. Mary’s River for this shipping season and they were on their way to Lay UP in Conneaut, Ohio this past Sunday. The River looks to be ice free at the moment and quite calm.
