Farm Block Fest is a music festival, in its 12th year of raising funds for the benefit of the Dan Schmitt Gift of Music and Education Fund, which was held this past weekend, on Farmer’s Block Road in Allouez. It’s a weekend filled with music and camping with all money raised going to help provide youth with free instruments and music lessons, after-school music programming and outdoor education opportunities emphasizing food independence, environmental sustainability and a connection to the natural world. It is held in memory of Dan Schmitt, an aspiring Keweenaw musician, who was killed in automobile accident in 2007.
Judy Byykkonen was there and shares today’s photos of the event with us. She also said there were a few vendors there selling t-shirts, jewelry, kombucha and artsy items. Sounds like it was a great time with a variety of live music.
The video for today, was made at a previous Farm Block Fest two years ago, but gives the same feel for what was happening at the 12th annual event, too.
