Dawn Gunnari was recently near Swedetown, when she spotted this Trumpeter Swan family out enjoying a sunny day. Dawn also gives us a mini lesson about each of these beauties. The male swan is a Cob, the female is a Pen and the babies are called Cygnets. After one day in the nest, the cygnets leave and begin learning lessons from their parents that will allow them to survive in the wild. I guess they don’t waste any time preparing them for life on the lake.
Here’s a video of feeding time for five Cygnets, showing some of the lessons these Trumpeter Swan parents teach their young. Interesting indeed!

Have seen the parents carry the cygnets on their backs while swimming to protect them. The parents will raise their wings high up so you can't even see the cygnets.
