We get to see this past Sunday’s sunrise from two different locations today. The first one was snapped at the Houghton County Memorial Airport, by Mandy Koskiniemi Daniels. She was there to send off her daughter and the rest of the her 7th grade Lake Linden-Hubbell eCybermission team to compete in the Nationals at Washington, D.C. The team of four girls, designed and tested LED reflectors for students to attach to their backpacks to make them more visible when walking to school before the sun is up each morning. Their team name is Yooper Lights and they are the only U.P. team, out of 20 teams competing in the Nationals. They will present their project to the public on Thursday, June 20th and folks will be able to vote for a “People’s Choice” award, with the winners receiving iPads. You can go vote for the Yooper Lights on Thursday, by clicking here: Vote for the Yooper Lights.
One more sunrise photo, this one from the Big Traverse shoreline, outside Barbara Bouwkamp’s beach studio. She was probably taking the second photo, about the same time the girls were boarding the plane or taking off. What a glorious sight to see!
Mandy also took a video as the plane took off into the glowing skies surrounding the airport. Both her daughter and another young lady on the team were flying for their very first time, too. Good luck to the Yooper Lights... hope they have a grand time at the competition. No matter what, they’re winners just for being part of this great adventure.
