Meeting Minutes from 2006
August meeting minutes
EAA Chapter 1270 met at 9 a.m. on
Saturday, August 12, 2006, in the manager's conference room at the
Houghton County Memorial Airport.
Minutes:
Attended:
Doug McKenzie, Joe Masini, Steve Miner, Ed Longenecker, Sam Coates,
George Kinnunen, Craig Kimmer, Fritz Wilson
President's Report:
Doug McKenze related tale of trip to St. Paul, MN; swapped stories with
Steve about Phoenix, Sky Harbor.
Busy places for GA pilots. No other business.
Vice President's Report:
Joe Masini updated group on his hangar stories; CAP looking for members
for Ground Team qualification.
Treasurer's Report:
Steve Miner: Current balance is $54.00
We need to sell some jacket raffle tickets!
Old Business:
Web site:
Craig Kimmer reported on latest hits; wants some Young Eagles pictures
to post, and meeting minutes (Steve will send Word version).
Young Eagles Flights:
Ed Longecker has submitted flight schedules through October for
insurance purposes.
Craig recruited a hand full of Explorers to fly today, but none showed
up. (what is with kids this summer??)
Fuel prices aren't a factor in pilot volunteering, as of yet!
Home Builders:
Daryl Maki was absent.
Sam Coates has been busy building a porch this summer, but now has a
TABLE on which to re-commence efforts on his project. He
will have a picture or two for the next meeting...
(you go, Sam)
Airport Board:
George Kinnunen made it to the meeting; reported pretty much business
as usual; but it sounds like the Houghton County airport budget is
going to take a hit this year...
Oshkosh Report:
Sam Coates, our Technical Advisor, has made the pilgrimage 27
times! Way to go Sam! And logged some 37 hours in the
builders area.
Sadly, also had a ring-side seat at Black Sunday.
Mackinac Island tour: OCTOBER. (fire it up, Ed, and get a
head start!) (the new $k carb can use the break-in)
Airport Manager:
Dennis Hext was absent.
Flying Lessons:
"short approach, long landing..."
On my first couple of trips in to Phoenix, Sky Harbor, I was introduced
to this procedure...
Arriving from the north, I was instructed to conduct a "short approach,
long landing;" Mid-field (mid-runway) base leg, aiming at
the control tower, turn mid-field final, land long, taxi to GA
ramp... Cool. Sounds kinda like an Oshkosh arrival...
Next meeting:
September 9, 2006

Happy Landings,
Respectfully submitted,
Steve R. Miner
