Marcy Bessolo Hermanson and her hubby, Eric took a hike on New Year’s Day, so they could get their adventures started for 2025 before the predicted winter weather returned. They made their way out to Hunter’s Point in Copper Harbor to check out the ice covered rocks along the shoreline and also what Porter’s Island looked like across the water between Hunter’s Point and Porter’s. You can see in the bottom photo that the water is high, so there’s no crossing on foot between them. Occasionally when Lake Superior waters are low, you can make your way across there on foot, with a few well placed rocks to make it across on, but not this day.

Steve Brimm chimes in with a calming video from Copper Harbor’s shore. Make sure you turn your volume UP to hear the water movement against the rocks...it completes the meditation factor of this video! Steve also shares a photo here below of what a difference a day (or two) makes...this is what it’s looking like right about now.

Beautiful hike and beautiful pictures! Yes, wise to go when you can avoid the icy rocks! Have never been there; can't recall when we tried to go there if it wasn't open to the public back then or if we couldn't find the path and didn't want to trespass. An opportunity missed.

I knew whose pictures these were
right away. You can't keep Marcy
inside, that's for sure. Nice job,
you two.

Pure gorgeousness....and I see agates. Sniff. GREAT
vid, and the Harbor sure needs a good dumping of
the White Gold.

Nice pix of another missed opportunity.
I believe I saw the trailhead at the
Copper Harbor marina, but I was on
the Wing and wanted to keep cruising.
Another would’ve, could’ve, should’ve.
Soothing video too!

The access to Hunter's Point Beach is very easy now. It's just a few steps along an easy flat walkway from the parking lot to a staircase (see top photo). The bottom photo shows the natural petroglyph-like rocks.

Lot's of Agates, hey?
The guy in the blue fleece vest, on the rocks, on the right, in the middle photo is Bob Barron; the discoverer of the world's largest float copper at the bottom of Great Sand Bay and also some huge Agates.
