Donna MacIntosh was sprung from her “cell” recently, by her good friend Cindy (HI LOU!). They did a bit of touring with a drive through the Mount Calvary cemetery just outside of Lake Linden and oh boy, just look at the colors there. It’s perfect, since the deadline for removing and flowers or decorations was October 1st, so now nature does its thing and decorates with fall leaves to replace what folks took away for the coming winter months. Just such a perfect mix of trees line both sides of the cemetery, so there’s a variety of color, too. You can see in Donna’s bottom photo that the birch trees are losing their leaves already. I mentioned earlier on these pages the amount of winds we’ve been getting. It’s not conducive for fall to stick around when the wind is howling away. That’s one good thing about the Pasty Cam. Even if the leaves are dropping fast, we can enjoy the photos and make fall last that much longer.
Yooper Steve, from TourDaYoop is taking us to check out the beautiful colors in the Huron Mountains and you don’t have to do any hiking or mountain climbing to enjoy it today.

Thanks Mary! It is so wonderful to get out of this cell too! HI ERIC!!
I wonder if Yooper Steve has ever gotten into the Huron Mountain Club?? Has anyone that reads this been in there?? I had a bud that was a State Police Officer, and she rode up there in the "Blue Goose"...and the guy at the opening told her she wasn't allowed in there. She told him "Oh yes I can...these cars go anywhere in Michigan"....he ran into his little cabin, (after he let her in) and made a few phone calls...there was not one person to be seen...but she could see cigs being smoked behind curtains, watching her....Another fella I knew, was in a canoe near there. They had him arrested for trespassing and he spent the night behind bars. Makes ya wonder "What are they hiding???"

Beautiful pictures, Donna! I thought about going over there last week, but never got there. So thanks for taking these photos of one of my favorite places to see the fall colors. I'm glad you were sprung, too.

Donna,
Glad to see you getting out for some fun. Here's a look a the developed area of the private Hurons.
I used to own a 40 next to Mt. Calvary. It's indeed beautiful in fall and I enjoyed walking through to the old railroad grade up the hill. Unfortunately there are plastic grave decorations scattered about along the road side and in the woods. Please people, plastics are everywhere in the environment. Don't add to the problem. Part of the fall cleanup was to pick up bags full out of the my ravine and take to recycling. Plant real flowers and maintain them. Your departed loved ones deserve it.

Thank you everyone....
Steve Pummill...you are so right...when I could walk good...there WAS a ton of plastic junk thrown down in the ravines...We even saw a couple of old tombstones. I like your idea of real flowers...is that allowed??
DA...way cool pics...have you been in there? Looks like several working areas and perhaps a dining hall? I've heard it's quite rich folks that live in there. I wonder if anyone lives there year round??

Steve and Donna, this year I planted irises and hostas at the cemetery in Houghton. And I planted hostas in Lake Linden. Don't know what I'll do next year. I'll probably bring more irises to Houghton cuz mine will spread. They at least mow the lawn up there. My dad's grand in Lake Linden didn't get mowed unless we did it. That's so uncalled for since we paid for perpetual care.

I've never been Donna. I've never even tried to get close to where the security gates are located.
Those are screen shots from Google Earth. It appears that County Road KK is blacktop.

Speaking of public voting and input, a 10,000-acre portion of lands owned by The Nature Conservancy is planning to be acquired by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
They are looking for public input on how to manage what will soon be a 20,000 acre State Forest. There are also public meetings starting next week at the Grant Township Hall.
They're ranked #5 right now. Lutsen from MN is in there too. I voted for Mount Bohemia.

Way cool...thank you for that info DA!
And thanks for posting the voting Mary!
And Deb, Cindy and I wondered about the Perpetual Care too! Do they pay you back for stopping?? That is so not good. I am impressed real plants are allowed! And obviously, perpetual care won't bother them! Call the Village and ask....

I've meant to stop in at the village so often and keep forgetting. That grave is horrible all summer. It's very frustrating.

Deb... You would have to stop at the Schoolcraft Township building on Front street. The village doesn't have anything to do with the cemetery, as it's not in the village limits.

Thanks, Mary. I actually knew that but just mistyped.
