Fritz is back on the kayaking circuit! He convinced Jeff Dennis and Chris to make a drive to the Marquette area recently, to check out the fall colors at the McClure Storage Basin, along with the historic steel CR-510 Bridge. Jeff said he was disappointed in the photos somewhat, because they really didn’t capture the beautiful colors the way they saw them with their own eyes. I think they’re pretty good myself. Jeff said they paddled around there for a couple hours and during that time they saw three professional photographers taking engagement photos, senior photos and mom-to-be photos on the historic bridge. It is a great setting for any of those types of photos, for sure. The newer bridge that replaced the historic one, was built in 2010. You can see it’s built much higher over the Dead River and in my humble opinion, just doesn’t have the “character” of the old bridge. I’m glad to see that the old one was kept in tact for foot traffic, rather than demolishing it once it wasn’t being used for vehicle traffic anymore.
Since we’re in the water with the Dennis family and we’ve seen before how interested Fritz gets in water fowl he sees while they’re kayaking, I thought it appropriate to take a look at ducks with Get To Know Nature. So, Let’s Talk About Ducks!

Mary, i couldn't agree more with your comments! This is one of my favorite places - especially during the Autumn. The new bridge just doesn't have the character of the original, and i'm glad they left the old bridge in place.

Ya know, the replacement bridge isn't as inviting as the old bridge, but that picture is glorious! And the colors must have been spectacular if Jeff thinks these aren't great, because I think they're wonderful. Omgosh! I've never been there, and we keep ssying were going to go but never do. I just don't like the drive to Marquette, or any long drive, for that matter, lol. But I'm sure glad Fritz, Jeff and Chris don't mind.

I think the photos are just great too. I love the foliage, and Fritz's bright orange life jacket.

Hi I enjoyed the duck video. I've seen common merganser females (gray with red heads) feeding on Lake Huron out in front of our cabin.
