When Marcy Bessolo Hermanson woke up to 50’s and wind, she knew she had to head to one of her favorite spots in the Keweenaw to see if there were any freighters taking refuge from the waves, Bete Grise Bay. She pulled a chook on her head and off she went, walking along the shore to the channel. She wasn’t disappointed, as the 1014 foot Paul R. Tregurtha was anchored there. Another treat was the US Geolocical Survey Research Vessel Kiyi out of Bayfield, WI, which was tied up just inside the irons. The Kiyi is 107 feet long and conducts fish stock assessment, fisheries research and habitat monitoring on Lake Superior. It can be out for fourteen days with sleeping for nine people, a full galley and three heads with showers.
Those views of Bete Grise Bay are self explanatory for why it’s one of Marcy’s favorite places. She said it holds many great childhood memories for her. And looking at the calm waters in the bay, you’d never suspect the winds have Lake Superior stirred up enough for the boats to look for safe harbor.
More freighters in today’s video from DRE Designs – Great Lakes Marine Products. Andrea Guerriero captured the Algoma Harvester meeting the Maria G. at Mission Point in Sault Ste. Marie. The Algoma is downbound, headed for Baie Comeau, Quebec and the Maria G. Salty is upbound headed for Thunder Bay.

Awesome pictures! It's always so great when you can catch these freighters anchored like that. I bet they were harbored in Keweenaw Bay, too. Good catch, Marcy.
In case UC doesn't get on here tonight, when he was in the hospital he told me to say that someone let the Tigers get hot. He had a lot of time to be watching his team excel in the playoffs. I must admit that I've watched every game also. What a performance those youngsters are putting on. They're on right now, trying to wrap up the series. Go Tigers.

Speaking of waiting out the storm, my apologies for the delay in publishing today’s Pasty Cam. Mary prepares the notes each morning and I do the layout and upload for each new day, but this morning I was involved in some of the complications of Hurricane Milton. As you may know, these days we winter in Florida, and we’ve had our share of weather extremes this year. Our daughter’s family from Orlando spent the last couple of nights with us to ride out the storm. They left this afternoon with the ‘all-clear’ and our lives are getting back to normal.
So good each day to have a glimpse of home in the U.P., which I’m missing about now :)

I think hurricanes trump Pasty Central, Charlie. Stay safe.
Every time I visit Bete Grise I forget to try to listen to the sand.
For all you LEAFERS out there, this was taken yesterday (10/9). It's fairly clear the areas that are peaking first.

WOW, Absolutely beautiful pictures, I think they're all great and I can't pick a favorite!! Also, what a neat informative video and narration. I could spend hours there just watching the Freighters, and their Horn's are so loud and cool. lol
Deb, thank you very much for your post!! Feels great to be home and continue to clean up the ulcer on my left foot. I had great care in the hospital, the staff was incredible!! I need to catch up on the past week, thanks again Deb & Mary for making me laugh during my stay!!
Enjoy the weekend all, can't wait to get that road trip in, but not until I'm ready health wise .

I forgot, D.A., Very nice pic and yes, you sure can see where the color changes are. It's exactly what my relatives stated where the colors are more advanced.

Cool pix and video! Thanks ladies for your contributions. I know I’m repeating myself, but I must give a shoutout to those UP blue skies! Nice to see you back, UC. I’m sure it feels good to be back home. Hoping your recovery goes smoothly.
