Beth Jukuri and her family have a most beautiful garden. Make no mistake...a garden is a big undertaking, starting with planting, then weeding, watering, harvesting and preserving for consumption over the winter months. It takes many hands to take care of a big garden like this and Beth said they have lots of helpers. You might say it’s a “family affair”. And that includes the Grandkids, too. You can see that it’s not all play for Beth’s little helpers, they’re in there with their work gloves on, watering the garden and helpng wherever they can. Of course they get breaks for picking flowers and drinking ice cold water from the spigot after working so hard. It’s good to see little ones like this, learning about the working side of things and getting to enjoy the fun parts, too.

A flashy video today, from Don Afman (a.k.a. D.A.(Midwested). He put this 5 minutes video together after witnessing what he said was the longest lasting lightning exhibition he’s ever experienced, lasting well over 30 minutes. This captures it well, including the lack of audible thunder. The majority of the sound is due to the wind. Don titled it Summer “Dry” Lightning. I asked him about that, as I had not heard that description before, we always referred to a storm like that as “heat lightning”. He said it refers to no rain with the lightning, which makes sense. No matter what you call it, the storm he captured is pretty spectacular!

Sweet pix for sure!
It’s so nice to witness innocence.

And the video was incredible.
I was wondering why no thunder was heard…
…it was heat lightning.

Oh what fun for Beth! They are
adorable, and such good little
helpers. Nice garden, too, Beth!!

That lightning is the coolest.

PERFECT way to raise those kids...Let them know
there's work ahead. That's doing it right! (I don't
like the "friend" parent that doesn't teach their
kid anything they will need in life...even so much
as learning how to say THANK YOU!) Those kids are
so adorable...and the garden is a beauty!!

DA...that vid is so amazing. Heat lightening...oh
yeah...we've seen that...that vid is so cool....

Hi
The little boy sitting on the tractor reminded me
of my kid brother Doug. From an early age he
wanted to drive machinery. He liked driving the
tractor (it pulled a wagon with apple crates) at
our cousins' orchard.

With regard to heat lightning, according to the
national weather service:
The term heat lightning is commonly used to
describe lightning from a distant thunderstorm
just too far away to see the actual cloud-to-
ground flash or to hear the accompanying thunder.

While many people incorrectly think that heat
lightning is a specific type of lightning, it is
simply the light produced by a distant
thunderstorm.

I don't know what it is with Grand-kids. They seem like such miracles. My Grandson is now 20 months old and runs so fast I can hardly catch him. He talks non-stop but I can't understand him yet (His Mom & Dad can though). But he sure can understand much of what we say. He a real Parrot, repeating what's heard and understanding much of it. I am very much looking forward to being able to have 2 way conversations and do things like gardening together.

Yes, that lightning storm was something else. It lit up half the sky, non-stop for 30 minutes. It started to feel like it was the opening scene of some sci-fi horror movie. The next day we had FIVE separate EF-1 tornadoes come through town.

Such cute pictures of the kids! And wow, i'm impressed with that garden! The weeding crew must have been out in force!

D.A. that's a very impressive vid! Glad you weren't close enough to be getting the sounds effects! Back in the day we used to call that "sheet lightening" because of that overall background type effect.
