This is the time of year here in the Keweenaw when fawns are getting bigger and stronger so you see them moving around much more. They’re following Mom around, learning how to survive from the many predators. Jean Dessellier has a Doe and Fawn visiting around by her home and captured a few shots of them recently. Beautiful critters, both of them. Jean said of all the animals that visit their yard, these two are her absolute favorite to watch.
We have a Doe around our farm, that has twins. She normally “hides” them in different places, one by our pond where there are trees for shelter and somewhat close to our house and one behind our barns, which is also close to the house. She knows the predators don’t come that close to the house, so her babies will be safe. Then she usually goes and watches from a distance by the treeline on our farm, to make sure they’re OK. It’s just so fascinating how they protect their young.
You won’t see any deer on Isle Royale, but you might see a moose if you get to the Island for an adventure. Visit Keweenaw shares another “Crossing Place” video, titled: A Gateway to Discovery: Isle Royale National Park, with Liz Valencia, Park Ranger.

Cute pictures. We haven't seen our
fawns yet. I'm sad, but yet it's
Ok, too. Happy to see some on
here.
